Introducing campCARE Action Sports Camps™

WHAT:

campCARE will forever be recognized as one of the leading action sports non-profits, and a pioneer in the snowboard world. Since 1997, campCARE opened the door to a new world that underprivileged youth would otherwise not have had the chance to experience. Run out of the foothills of one of the world's premier ski resorts, campCARE operated successfully for a decade in partnership with Whistler / Blackcomb to bring the underprivileged youth of the Sea to Sky corridor a chance of a lifetime: working with top-notch pros to develop their riding skills and get away from the day-to-day challenges that overwhelmed their lives.

campCARE Action Sports Camps™ unlocked youth potential through sports by bringing together world-class athletes to mentor high-risk youth. These high caliber athletes became role models inspiring youth to reach their highest potential. campCARE delivered high profile snowboard, snowmobile, skateboard, mountain bike, and BMX camps, with a progressive freestyle focus. We also ran expression session jams, contests, and other West Coast youth culture  events that inspired a community to get involved and support a great grassroots cause.

As an authentic voice of core action sports and youth culture, campCARE set the benchmark for philanthropic efforts within the action sports industry. We wish to thank our legendary sponsors, community partners, top athletes, and wonderful friends. We are grateful to our supporters throughout the years for joining us in our collective desire to make the world a better place, one child at a time.

UNIQUELY CAMPCARE:

  • 100% volunteer-run organization
  • Top pro endorsed
  • 2:1 Kid to-Coach ratio means kids received individualized attention
  • Kids kept top shelf gear and clothing, compliments of generous program sponsors
  • 100% of every dollar raised directly supported program costs

WHO BACKED US:

Our professionals worked hard towards creating successful careers, and they shared their commitment, work ethic and passion with the kids. We are indebted to some of snowboarding’s most extraordinary players who were among our 100+ pro supporters.

WHO WE BENEFITED:

campCARE focused on helping disenfranchised youth, who had suffered from low self-esteem, abuse, neglect and maltreatment. The culturally diverse youth we served were nine to eighteen years old, from high-need and low-service communities in and around the Lower Mainland and the Sea-to-Sky highway area.

SUCCESS STORIES:

Sixteen years of successive programming have produced many heart-warming victories. Six of our Junior Development Team have been Canada’s First Nation Olympic Snowboard Team members, after learning how to ride at campCARE. It is with great pride that three of our youth made the BC Snowboard Development team, and that self-esteem and self-reliability empowers our young people. One of the original youth is now 25 and a partner in the founder’s luxury marketing firm.

Essential to our success has been the support by our local communities and by our manufacturing donors who have provided the warm clothing and the snowboarding gear for our kids. The children have kept both clothing and equipment over the years. Without their contributions, campCARE could not have given so many kids a chance at a better life. THANK YOU!!!!!

WHERE IT WENT DOWN:

Whistler-Blackcomb Mountains, voted the world’s #1 winter resort, was home for our crew. Whistler is a world-class freeriding mecca with cliff drops, cornices, wind lips and natural hits- it’s the ultimate big mountain riding experience. Whistler-Blackcomb boasts the #3 ranked park and pipe in the world, the highest vertical, biggest acreage, awe-inspiring backcountry, and a charming village full of heart. Thank you Whistler-Blackcomb for the LEGENDARY support and memories over the years.

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler generously provided deluxe accommodations, so coaches and kids could ride, swim, dine and just hangout, forming the tight bond we enjoyed at campCARE. The Fairmont sits like a beautiful feudal castle at the foot of Blackcomb Mountain, but with every delicious modern comfort added including comfy duvets and ski valet service. Our crew looked forward to hitting the oversized hot tubs and heated outdoor pool après ski in their Fairmont bathrobes.

Genuine greetings with a genuine smile, our groups were always welcomed to the loveliest hotel with the best professional staff in Whistler. Treating guests like royalty is just what the Fairmont Chateau Whistler does best. Thank you for the years of LOVE!

Our invitational stateside programs were hosted at leading West Coast resorts benefiting group home youth.

Our everlasting THANKS to HOST RESORTS: Whistler/Blackcomb (BC), Mount Seymour (BC), Heavenly Mountain Resort (CA), Mt. Baker (WA), Mount Hood Meadows (OR), Snowshoe (W.VA), Kirkwood (CA), Iron Mountain (CA) and Crested Butte (CO).

WHY WE DID IT:

There is no greater victory than to see success reflected in the eyes of a child.  Our motivation was watching each kid triumph over adversity and see the world as full of possibilities. Community and industry championship made a huge impact on three generations of riders who will always be able to draw upon their success on the hill as inspiration towards success in life.

We believe innovative grassroots programs like campCARE are essential to a brighter future that empowers young people to grow. campCARE’s pledge continues on in The Legacy Foundation, making a positive difference, one child at a time.
